Google Adds Presentations to Docs and Spreadsheets

Today Eric Schmidt confirmed that Google Docs & Spreadsheets will soon add Presentations to their suite of online office products. Speaking to the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Schmidt said, “We don’t think its a competitor to Microsoft Office…It’s casual and sharing and a better fit to how people use the Web. My guess is many companies in the audience are building products like this or other variants of this using the emerging architecture.” The Google Blog has the official announcement,
“We’ll soon be welcoming a new addition to the Google Docs & Spreadsheets family: presentations.
First of all, we want to welcome the team from Tonic Systems to Google. Tonic, which we’ve just acquired, is based in San Francisco and Melbourne, Australia. They have some great technology for presentation creation and document conversion, and it will be a great addition as we add presentation sharing and collaboration capabilities to Google Docs & Spreadsheets.”
Google Presentations is due out this summer.
In other Google news - Search Engine Journal points out that thanks to Google’s DoubleClick acquisition, they’ve also picked up Performics, an internet/search marketing firm. Though there’s no word on what Google plans to do with Performics, the acquisition FAQ does plainly state, “[Google has] no plans to dispose of it at this time.” Danny Sullivan says that there’s no way Google could seriously keep Performics without being accused of favoritism of conflict. Says Sullivan, “I’d fully expect to see Performics get sold off.”

Google should most definitely be awarded some “innovation” price.
I think they are constantly striving to offer better products and services to their consumers under the same platform (pricing and promotion) that they already manage to run so well.
To the end consumer, this is a huge luxury. We had been used to getting new stuff only if we gave something -bigger- up in return. Google is changing all this rules.
