Google Maps has new super-zoom aerial photographs of select geographic regions. French blogger Geotrotter.com has a collection of 80 or so other snapshots from around the Globe, including this guy in chad, the Googleplex pool, and this boating party in Australia. The zoom isn’t available as a direct feature via Google Maps, but rather, can be manipulated by changing the ‘z’ parameter in the URL (see Google Blogoscoped for directions).
In the meantime, Google announced a new partnership with BMW enabling users in Germany to send business listings from Google Maps Deutschland directly to cars with the BMW Assist navigation system. Says the Official Google Blog,
“No more having to write down the address and re-enter it in the car — now you can just click and drive!.. We’ve partnered with BMW because they’re a leading innovator in the automotive space, and they share our vision for a network-connected world.”

If you look closely at the Z parameter for the NYC metro area the zoom is already set to the ulrta sharp 20-23 in most areas. This seems like a feature that has been turned on for the Manhattan area for awhile that is just now being noticed in other places.
