Today Yahoo launched a mobile display advertising platform in 19 countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas. From the press release, “This worldwide launch demonstrates Yahoo’s continued focus on extending our leadership in display advertising and intension to be number one in mobile monetization.” The display ads will show up on yahoo’s mobile site, m.yahoo.com, and will either let users click-to-call or click through to a mobile landing page. Though Yahoo did not disclose prices for ads, they did announce that a number of major advertisers are already on board - including Nissan, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Hilton, Intel and Infinity.
Yahoo also announced a partnership with LG that will bring Yahoo’s Go 2.0 service to LG’s mobile phones. Yahoo! Go 2.0 is Yahoo’s “reinvention of mobile search”. Go 2.0 moved into “gamma” phase today, bringing with it a number of enhanced features:
- “Smart” search results
- A Local & Maps widget that includes directory information, ratings and reviews, interactive maps, driving directions and traffic updates.
- Customizable news feeds & an RSS reader
- Image search, uploading and sharing through a Flickr widget
- Display ads (see above)
The display network, LG deal, and Gamma Go 2.0 were all announced today at the 3GSM World Conference in Barcelona.
