Steve Rubel predicts that the increasing popularity of Ajax, Flash and other interactive technologies will turn Page Views into a “moot point”. His argument is that interactive platforms reduce the need to turn pages, thus PV will no longer be a meaningful stat for advertisers.
Keeping Track of Company Emails
Yahoo News reports that a new Federal court ruling will require companies to keep closer watch on employees’ digital communications. According to the new rules, emails, instant messages and other electronic documents must be retrievable for legal purposes. Erasing digital documents or replacing them with new files is now considered “virtual shredding”.
VeriSign Signs on Till 2012
Today the US government approved a contract the extend VeriSign’s control over .com domain names until 2012.
JotSpot’s Risky Business
JotSpot is underfire for dropping customers after their Google acquisition. Apparently, JotSpot wasn’t allowing customers access to their corporate data for a period of time after the merger. “Pick your hosted application service provider well”, advised the disgruntled customer - or quit storing everything on the Internet.
Pretexting OK, says MPAA
Wired reports that a California bill to prohibit pretexing was killed, after a considerable lobbying effort from the MPAA. Says Wired, “When the bill hit the assembly floor Aug. 23, it was voted down 33 - 27, just days before revelations about Hewlett-Packard’s use of pretexting to spy on journalists and board members…Legislature records confirm that the MPAA’s paid lobbyists worked on the measure.”
