We noticed something strange in Google’s search results this morning…there seem to be far too many of those little blue Google Checkout shopping cart icons peppering the search ads. At least half (and in some cases all) the ads on a given search sport it.

To see whether this truly was an explosion in the use of Checkout or just a weird glitch, we Googled ourselves, and sure enough…

…the little blue cart denotes Reprise Media as a certified Google Checkout merchant, along with two other sites. We’re not (and we can’t speak for the others, but we have our doubts).

Anyone else seeing this? We wonder what kind of effect it’s having on ad clicks and CTR.

Update: Poof! It appears to be fixed. We’re not sure when it started, so we couldn’t say how long the Google SERPS had ‘Checkout pox.’ Has anyone seen this phenomenon before?

Update update: Looks like Threadwatch had a handle on this, too.
