Day dreaming about selling the ranch house and moving to Borneo? You might want to get a quick idea of how much the old homestead is worth before calling a realtor, and Yahoo! has a brand new way to do it, courtesy of real estate start-up Zillow.
You can access the tool either by typing ‘home values’ into a Yahoo! search bar, or clicking on “What’s my home worth?” from within Yahoo! Real Estate. Either way, you can enter the address of any home into a box and get the “Zestimate” value. Here’s a snip from the press release:
“Zillow.com calculates its estimates — used by potential buyers and sellers, as well as those just curious about their neighbors — based on county records and other data.”
Any home address you enter is plotted on a Yahoo! Map, along with ten “comparables” in the same neighborhood. A one week value change is shown for each home on the map, as well as a graph showing historical price trends, a “Zestimate Ranking” (a percentage of how many homes ion the same zip code have a lower value), and a link to Yahoo! Answers inviting users to “ask a home valuation question.” Check out the Yahoo! Search Blog and the Zillow blog for additional info and screenshots.
