It’s helped millions with their searches and kept many a lawyer gainfully employed and off the streets. No doubt about it - you gotta love Google.

The search engine is back in court this week in two separate cases. The first has to do with Google Brazil, whom the country’s Attorney General is saying plays a key role in the distribution of “child pornography and racial materials” via its Orkut social networking serviec.

The Attorney General wants Google to hand over select content and posts in question and has presented the firm with a court order to that effect. Google says that since the content is hosted in the US, the court order has no legal bearing.

This isn’t the first time Google Brazil has been in trouble over Orkut. You’ll remember back in July of last year when the service came under scrutiny for being a haven for the sale of illegal drugs.

The second case has to do with Google Suggest. A Belgian firm is suing Google over claims that the toolbar directs users to a pirated version of its software.

The company is called ServersCheck and it says that Google-suggested search terms such as “serverscheck crack” and “serverscheck pro crack” are posing at threat to its business and want the offending content removed.

No way, says Google, who maintains that doing so would put them on the block for censorship of search results.
