While most of us are raring for a long weekend off, at least one new Google employee is getting ready for work. Danny Sullivan says that Google is unleashing AdsBot “in the coming weeks,” which will exclusively spider AdWords landing pages independantly of Google’s other bots. AdsBot’s evaluations will help determine the overall quality of AdWords campaigns; a high AdRank could potentially lead to less costly, higher ranking ads.
If you don’t cotton to the idea of AdsBot going to town on your landing pages, you do have the option to block it - but at your campaign’s peril. Google says:
“We believe that a non-participating advertiser does detract from the user’s search experience, and from the overall quality of the AdWords program…if you restrict AdWords from visiting your landing pages, you will experience a drop in Quality Scores for your related keywords.”
So we guess the message is: Improve landing page quality. If you’re not sure how, Google has a few tips here.
