If you’ve been feeling left out of MSN’s adCenter beta testing, today is your lucky day, according to Search Engine Journal; any advertiser with a credit card and 5 bucks to spare has the chance to sign up for an adCenter account for a limited time (between 12 PM and 3 PM Eastern Standard Time).
Before you rush to plunk down that cash, you might want to know a little more about what you’re in for; Search Engine Roundtable points out a helpful thread on Webmaster World that sets out to prime the uninitiated. First off, expect “Low cost clicks, low traffic, dodgy system performance, and a new interface/process to learn.” Sure, it’s a mixed bag, but MSN hopes its demographic targeting features - aim your ads by “location, sex, income, time of day, etc…” - will make up for the system’s drawbacks while they’re working out the kinks (remember, though, that the info is only as good as what MSN’s users voluntarily provide). Although users are supposed to be limited to 1 master account with 3 subaccounts per credit card, Webmaster World moderator Werty suggests a workaround:
“…You can have more than 3 accounts within one main login, if you have numerous credit cards. You may be able to play the system and get numerous accounts with different credit cards and email addresses.”
Today’s membership drive follows last week’s 70 percent increase in adCenter traffic on MSN’s search results and a recent makeover. It looks like MSN’s intrepid little choo-choo is finally starting to pick up steam; they’re going to need all the advertisers they can get to catch up to Google and even Yahoo! in the ad relevancy game.
