Yahoo has beefed up its research team with a new hire. He’s IBM’s former search CTO and his name is Andrei Broder. Broder will work for Yahoo as a VP of emerging search technology.
Red Herring’s got a nice Q&A in which Broder speaks about the evolution of search advertising, the major players vs. small and his future areas of research.
Cool quote on why blog search & podcasting are still trying to prove themselves:
“This entire democratization of publishing is a wonderful phenomenon. People everywhere can publish and share opinions. They add knowledge. There are communities that create knowledge. They could be esoteric, and maybe only the community cares. There is a lot of knowledge that’s created, and mining this knowledge is difficult, because of its character. That’s a difficult area of research.”
