The all-out consumer assault that begins the day after Thanksgiving is commonly referred to by retailers as “Black Friday”.

In the past few years a different sort of shopping phenomenon has emerged under a different name. Some ecommerce merchants have taken to calling the Monday after Thanksgiving “Cyber Monday” - a day when many consumers are back in front of their keyboards and having holiday shopping on their minds.

According to this Shop.org survey, 77% of online retailers say their sales increase substantially on the day after Thanksgiving and 36% say they will be offering special promotions and incentives to take advantage of the increased traffic.

On a related note, Google is releasing a tool designed to help you map out your retail route. It will live on the Froogle site and allow you to search for a specific item in a designated zip code, listing price differences among competing retailers. Read more here in ABC News.
