There goes the neighborhood.
New York-based niche blog publisher Weblogs Inc. has been scooped up by America Online.
The asking price is said to be somewhere between $20-35 million and the news was first announced in this exclusive on PaidContent.org.
Weblogs is home to 80-some ad-supported sites, including Engadget, TVSquad and Cinematical.
AOL is obviously interested in the advertising opportunities inherent in adding all these sites to their existing network. The significant audiences each of these blogs represent (Engadget is the web’s third most popular blog) adds more spice, especially given AOL’s shrinking subscriber base.
BetaNews has more.
