Old Rupert has been busy as of late. Word is that the Murdoch-controlled media giant News Corp. is in talks to buy an online search engine for video and television clips, with San Francisco-based Blinkx as the most likely target.

News Corp. made waves last month when they acquired Intermix and it appears that the media conglomerate is pushing forward with plans to build out its empire through online acquisitions.

Right now they’re not commenting on the deal with Blinx, though Murdoch has had plenty to say about the current strategy of most of his traditional media competitors, calling their practice of duplicating articles across print and online editions outdated and “bland.”

New Media Musings links to a podcast with BlinxTV co-Founder Suranga Chandratillake in which he discusses the future of multimedia search. Good stuff.
