If you’re not in the know, you might assume “GTD” stands for something like Genomic Threading Database, Greenville Tool & Die, or perhaps even Global Trade Directory. But you’d be wrong.
GTD is an acronym for Getting Things Done, a time management method, book, and pop culture movement popularized by David Allen, a productivity trainer and business consultant.
Wired Magazine recently did an interview with Merlin Mann, GTD proponent and author of the popular GTD blog 43 Folders which gives some background on the movement’s growing popularity.
Even more interesting than the GTD movement itself is its devotees, who share their experiences with the new productivity craze via blogs containing entries such as How to Never Lose Your Keys Again (btw, this one actually works) and How to Create A Productivity Emergency Kit. There’s also photo groups on Flickr and Mann’s own “Hipster PDA” which is nothing more than a stack of colored index cards and some time management methodology.
In true GTD fashion, Mann wastes no time in posting the full transcript of his interview here.
